Azerbaijani law enforcers detain drivers from Iran on road from Goris to Kapan

Two Iranian truck drivers who were transporting cement were detained on the road from Goris to Kapan near the village of Vorotan, Armenian media report. The detained truck drivers illegally crossed the border of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan claims.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on September 9, the Azerbaijani side arranged a police checkpoint on the Azerbaijani section of the road from Goris to Kapan, and it began operating on September 11. The police checkpoint was arranged in violation of international norms, the Ombudsperson of Armenia Arman Tatoyan stated.

The Armenian media reported about the detention of two Iranian truck drivers by the Azerbaijani side on the section of the road from Goris to Kapan in Armenia. “Near the village of Vorotan, Azerbaijani policemen detained two Iranian truck drivers who were transporting cement,” the “Para TV” reports today with reference to its own sources, as translated from the Armenian language by the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent. The truck drivers used a mobile phone to report that they were detained and that the Azerbaijani side was going to bring them to trial, and then the connection was interrupted, the “Para TV” reported.

The Azerbaijani side confirmed the fact of detention of two Iranian truck drivers. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Azerbaijan claims it considers the entry of the Iranian trucks illegal and that fact became the reason for the detention of the truck drivers, the Azerbaijani edition “Haqqin.az” reports today.
